Master Chen

Tai Chi (also known as T'ai Chi Ch'uan or Taijiquan) is a traditional Chinese form of exercise that can be practiced by all ages. Regular practice of Tai Chi has many health benefits, including improved balance, stress reduction, increased strength and flexibility, and lowering of high blood pressure. At higher levels of practice, Tai Chi is also a powerful martial art with self-defense application.

Our acupuncturist Matthew Miller teaches Tai Chi classes on Saturday mornings at the Mind Body Studio in Lynchburg, Virginia. Matthew lived in China for nine years where he learned Tai Chi from Master Chen Longxiang (pictured left), a fifth generation heir to the authentic Tai Chi lineage.

Raynaud's Disease

Raynaud's Disease is a disorder that affects the blood vessels in the fingers, toes, ears, and nose. It is characterized by episodic attacks that cause the blood vessels to narrow, limiting blood circulation to affected areas. This causes numbness, coolness, discoloration of skin and sometimes pain.

The Chinese have used acupuncture to successfully treat Raynaud's Disease for thousands of years. A recent study done in Germany confirms that acupuncture can bring significant relief to patients with this disorder. You can read more about the study here.
