POST-SURGICAL
PAIN
In November
of 2003, I was recovering from emergency surgery to re-attach
four fingers of my left hand. My hand specialist Dr. Sherman
informed me that the healing process for the bone and flesh
is accompanied by a lot of pain. She accordingly prescribed
two strong pain-killers to help me along. I took as much pain
medicine as the prescription allowed for, but still had major
discomfort and unpleasant side effects. Dr.
Sherman did not oppose my consulting Matthew and Wang Yao Miller
as a "supplement" to the pain medicine. Well, a solitary
half-hour's acupuncture treatment and a good night's sleep dispensed
with strong pain medicine entirely! I needed no more than a
headache's dose of ibuprofen for a couple of days, and have
used no pain medicine of any description since. I can make no
claim to understand how acupuncture works, but I can happily
testify to the results.
Thank you, Matt and Wang Yao.
Sincerely,
Charlie Seawell
